Funnest part of RPGs?
A good, solid plot + gameplay and well-executed immersion can make a game super fantastic. I, personally, love fighting games and epic RPG adventures alike for the same reason; you get to kick ass for a noble cause. And how emotionally involved you want to be in that cause is up to you. I don't think you can go either way one hundred percent and abandon the other. But you do have to take some interest in what you're doing, and enjoy doing it.
The most fun for me is exploration. Not that I want a game with virtually NO direction, that just expects you to magically know what to do all the time; but I want the ability to go places, check stuff out, and be rewarded for doing so. Another reason why Chrono Cross was such a great game for me. While it did screw you over a few times, putting in all these secret things you could only stumble upon by accident- it was EXCELLENT whenever I so happened to find one. To me, a fun game needs depth, and tons of it. I don't want a clear-cut path for my game play, I want lots of little extra things for me to do and find.

Release Something! Day II: The Sequel [March 20th]
I'll see what I have done by the twentieth, and either release a whole bunch of resources or an actual demo, if I have one by then.
I have to say I'm very excited to see what everyone will have to share on that day.

Lol, "jhad"
Jihad? :DD. Oh boy! I'll go get the hand grenades...
This looks very interesting, indeed. I shall have to keep my eye on the developments here.
Also; if the main character's mother also sends him/her on an errand to sell some eggs in town, then one of us is going to have to change our plot exposition.
We Did It First screenshot thread
Huzzah! I got the title screen done today!
Ignore how sketchy the people in the corner are, I was just being lazy. :/. And I don't plan to be any less lazy, if you're wondering. I'm doing plenty more ambitious things to make up for it. (Although I may just take them out altogether, if you think it'll help.)
Should I add a wood grain for the background of that system I made?
I have come to show you my sprites.

wow, I love your graphics in game!
Heh, it's mostly Seiken Densetsu 3 rips right now- I edit things a lot, though, to get some of the content I need. The character is also original. But I do plan to make a few chipsets from the ground up... maybe I'll show them here, too, if nobody minds.
Do i have Map making Skills?
I see a combination of Seiken 3 rips and other graphics I don't recognize... out of curiosity, is there original content here? :D. If so, then I want to congratulate you. If not, please tell me; I'd like to know where you get your resources....
But in reference to the topic at hand, these look just fine. I only see a few problems here and there...
In the first one, you have shadows at the left side of the house. Even if your light source was coming from the right, you wouldn't have shadows on the left like that- the roof doesn't jut out, and there's nothing there to create a shadow.
Nothing wrong with the second one.
Third one, the fence is on top of water.. and the house wall seems to disappear in the center, which it really can't do if there's a roof right there. Even if you want it to have two separate houses that share a sort of jointed roof, you need enough space to make it clear that's what you're doing.
Fourth one; looks great. The stairs look a little steep, though. Maybe have them go a tile or two further down.
Five; stacked barrels look unnatural, you're better off editing your own stacked barrels into the chipset. You could do the same thing with the bridge, although it looks nice as-is. Nice way to be resourceful!
Six: Looks just fine.
Thanks for sharing, these are all very pretty and I think your game/whatever projects you contribute to will be well-mapped. And don't worry about everything I said, I am a bit of a nit-picker when it comes to graphics. I'd call this a job well done, there's no horrendous mistakes and overall it looks very streamlined.

Now a topic about character design.
Design rule #47... that made me laugh.
And, Reives... it can be a lot of work making all those sprites, especially if you're making them really big! (not so much work with 3D animation, especially if all you have to do is some basic mesh-molding and a new texture) But I'm glad you mentioned it, I was actually planning to include something like a bath house in Jasmine....
The game I feel did the best with characters, (And a lot of other things, at that,) was Chrono Cross.
The characters in Chrono Cross stole my heart away one by one. Nikki, Pierre, Kid, Serge, even the obnoxious Peppor and Solt. The only one I ever disliked was Kortcha, he came of as a bit of a whiner. A LOUD whiner. And even though this game was, for some, nearly impossible to beat due to it's vastness- I loved it. I never beat it, myself; it has so much gametime and so much replay value, (and such an amazing soundtrack!) that it's satisfying enough just to play through the first four hours over and over again. Five minutes of Chrono Cross is worth five hours of ANY major franchise out there. It's just a beautiful game, and I'd never get tired of hunting Komodo Dragons at Lizard Rock.
And, no, that's not where my name came from.

Naa, that isn't their original size. I just took a screenshot (Prnt Scrn) while I was zoomed in and working on them. In reality, they fit quite nicely into RPG maker.
Here, for example;
(It's a little blurry, because it's a jpg)
They would, however, look very big if used in a game with normal RTP-style sprites and backgrounds.

Who is DD?
I find your lack of imagination disturbing.
*Ahem I so did not make a lame Starwars joke right there. Nope, I sure didn't.*
It's a double-smiley, to demonstrate the utmost joy or pride. Here, let me demonstrate;
:D
See, that's happy.
:DD
That's happier.
Forgive me, it's become common practice out of habit. I'm a happy person.
